Valsartan Recall Lawsuit
Valsartan is a prescription drug used to treat hypertension and other various heart conditions. Adults use this drug to treat high blood pressure and congestive heart problems as well as ventricle dysfunction after suffering a heart attack.
The FDA recalled Valsartan after finding the probable human carcinogen NDMA had contaminated the drug. This carcinogen has been linked to other serious illness such as liver, kidney, colorectal, and stomach cancer.
The Environmental Protection Agency states that NDMA is a semi volatile organic chemical that forms in both industrial and natural processes. It can be unintentionally produced in and released through chemical reactions that involve alkylamines from industrial sources. It also is an unintended byproduct of chlorination of wastewater at wastewater treatment plants.
After the FDA issued a recall of Valsartan in July of 2018, many patients were switched over to Losartan. Losartan then was also recalled in November of 2018 after detecting traces of NDEA.
Did you receive a Valsartan recall letter?
According to a recent update by the FDA, there are acceptable intake levels of each drug containing certain levels of carcinogens NDMA, NDEA, and NMBA that are reflected in the drug label. There are indicated safe limits for human intake of these cancer-causing agents, however, the recalled valsartan pills exceed those limits.
The FDA recalled products list states that the drug Valsartan has been recalled from companies that include Major Pharmaceuticals, Solco Healthcare, and Teva Pharmaceuticals Industries LTD. Check the list in the link above to compare your prescription and determine if it was recalled.
